I grew up in
South Carolina,
where I learned to eat grits the proper way: smothered with butter and
sprinkled with salt. You can imagine my horror when I went to graduate
school
in upstate New York and saw people eating their grits with milk and
sugar. I am inspired
by those who move freely back and forth between the left- and
right-brain
worlds. ·
